About Let It Out
Our mission is to empower artists by using a process of musical development and creative exploration that results in recordings that represent their deepest self-expression.
We are called Let It Out Productions because we believe that the best music is found in the hearts and imaginations of true artists and is waiting to be let out at just the right time.
We provide gentle guidance, powerful insights, and a peaceful environment that will set your best music free.
Generally, there are 3 approaches to recording:
- Commercial Approach—This is the most common approach and is based on adapting to the fashion and sounds of the marketplace and established audiences. The purpose of this approach is to sell products, often overlooking artistic integrity for the sake of what sells.
- Artistic Approach—This way of working is based upon a purely creative vision or desire to express oneself regardless of commercial success. Based on the belief of art for art’s sake, it risks perpetuating the “starving artist syndrome.”
- The Whole Musician™ Approach—This holistic approach takes both the commercial and artistic concerns into account. It also includes the conscious consideration of other components often left to chance such as the artist’s musical growth, the potential for creative breakthroughs, and the importance of making a lasting musical contribution.
At Let It Out Productions we use The Whole Musician™ Approach to address all dimensions of your life as an Independent Musician—career, craft and character—in order to create results that are aligned with your personal, professional and artistic visions.
We address something that few people talk about in the music business: the delicate and subtle stages that a creative work goes through on its way to becoming a recorded track. We give as much credence to the creative process as the desire for a high-quality finished product.

Let It Out Productions provides an environment in which to reflect, create, get inspired and get down to work. We connect with nature, sketch ideas, play, record, edit and mix, all in a rhythmic and flowing manner.
Our creative environment is based on the following principles and features:
- Retreat: Leaving the every day experience and focusing exclusively on your creative expression.
- Reflection: Opening your ears and settling in to the music of the moment—whether you are coming in with a collection of songs to record or if you are composing through improvisation and experimentation, there is great benefit to listening to each moment with fresh ears and fresh perspective.
- Nature: The elements and the seasons are great teachers. Taking moments to connect with nature enlivens the creative process.
- A Cross Between a Playground and a Laboratory: A large collection of music-related books and reference materials, beautiful sounding instruments, and high-end recording technology set the stage for both experimentation and inspired problem solving.
- Instruments: Acoustic piano, guitars, dozens of percussion instruments, stringed instruments, and instruments from different parts of the world are available to complement the artist’s existing musical palette.
- MIDI: While most of our projects use primarily acoustic and electric instruments, we do have a large sample library and the ability to create new samples for creative uses of MIDI and other digital music technologies.
- Transparent Recording Process: A variety of microphones and pre-amps are discreetly placed in the studio to put the emphasis on quickly and efficiently capturing the most uninhibited expression of the artist.
We have a continually evolving boutique collection of instruments and gear selected for their versatility, richness and beauty.
Our studio equipment is chosen with the specific purpose of exploring the artist’s imagination and to be able to quickly and organically capture the artist’s most fertile ideas and impulses.
Our studio features:
- Baldwin spinet acoustic piano
- Dozens of drums, percussion instruments, and cymbals
- Martin acoustic/electric bass
- Vintage Martin ukulele
- Hohner & Lee Oskar harmonicas

We have affiliations with a wide range of instrumentalists, engineers, and larger recording facilities. Once the scope of a project is assessed, a creative team is assembled using these resources as needed.
Joshua Pearl has a rich and diverse background in music production and artist development. Few producers cross over as many genres and styles. He brings a sensitivity to the psychology of artists and the spiritual dimension of musical expression, as well as an acute understanding of the creative process.
As Director of the Whole Musician Workshop,™ Joshua has helped hundreds of musicians hone in their craft. Author of the forthcoming book, The Whole Musician—How to Identify, Develop, Manifest, and Sustain Your Most Authentic Musical Expression, he has developed a unique hybrid approach to project development taking on the dual roles of music producer and creative guide—aligning and liberating each artist’s unique musicianship through the recording process.
A classically trained pianist, Joshua formed the foundation of his Whole Musician™ approach at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music where he earned degrees in Piano Performance and Educational Theory. He expanded his knowledge of global music traditions while living for many years in Kyoto, Japan where he received 3rd level certification for his studies of traditional Japanese music on the koto. While in Japan he founded, produced, directed and performed in Crosscurrents, a multi-cultural collaborative concert series.
Another significant influence on Joshua’s work is his involvement in the world of musical and non-musical theater. His theater experience includes work on Broadway, off-Broadway, and summer stock where he has performed in a number of roles including composer, arranger, orchestrator, keyboardist and musical director.
For the last decade, Joshua’s work has been based in Woodstock, New York and New York City where he has worked with a wide range of well-known artists such as: Levon Helm (The Band), Kate Pierson (The B-52s), Tony Award winner Lillias White, Peter Schikele (PDQ Bach), and Director Arthur Storch, among others.
As producer with Let It Out, Joshua is committed to using his unique and diverse musical background in service of developing the work of recording artists and songwriters of all styles and backgrounds regardless of genre.
